1 Style is more than surface. You will recognize an art epoch, a life style or a power logotype of an art group. Style is very closely attached to the type of motive and to the picture´s message. - you must interpret the style closely before taking any decision as for the quality of a certain picture.

2 Performance In the first place there is a matter of skill, a mere handicraft quality. But performance is much more than that. An art object´s ability of creating surprise and originality is important. Here we can also discuss the plastical movement and the artist´s use of contrasts - form, color and light contrasts and even the contrast of meaning.

3 Image I define image in this case as the artist´s place in the hierarchy of the "art society" and/or in the mind of common people. This image consists of two parts, awareness and reputation.

The awareness of an artist is a very strong quality aspect. A high rate of awareness creates automatically a good reputation. That means an average picture can be rated as being of a very good quality if made by a well-known artist. The image of the artist strongly affects the quality of his pictures. If the artist will be better known later on the quality of his earlier production will increase.

4 Time changes and changes what is quality. It is important to know that the quality of a piece of art is never a constant one. The quality as well as the very meaning of a picture will change over time owing to new social, economical or political circumstances. Do not ask what is quality - ask when is quality

5. Size has normally no influence upon the concept of quality but when talking about very small or very large objects size will strongly affect the picture´s impact on a spectator.

At the end when the picture finds you - Who are you? That is a crucial question when deciding whether the picture is of a good quality or not. We are talking of your childhood, of social class, of your belonging to certain small groups of economical or political interests which you may be involved in. The picture is the stimulus and it is up to you to deliver the response.

You are the only one who can decide whether the picture is good or not for you. There is no objective quality index of art. The concept of quality is always attached to a spectator or a group of spectators.
